Silver Alert

The Rhode Island State Police is the coordinating law enforcement agency for the Rhode Island Missing Senior Citizen Alert Program, commonly known as the "Silver Alerts." The program provides a structured response to missing senior citizens who have a documented impaired mental condition, or persons, of any age, with a diagnosis of dementia. When an alert is activated, the Rhode Island State Police requests the assistance of local broadcasters to send emergency alerts to the public with the goal of quickly and safely recovering the missing senior citizen or cognitively impaired person. The program is only activated by law enforcement and is intended only for those incidents in which a senior citizen or person with requisite documentation or diagnosis is missing AND whose disappearance poses a realistic threat to their safety and health.
